Hello, friends, and welcome!
It's always exciting to embark on a new adventure, and this blog is exactly that – a big adventure.
I decided to start joyOdowntown because I love living in a loft in Downtown Los Angeles, and want to create a place where anyone can learn more about what it's like being a family in one big room, in one of the biggest and most diverse cities in the world.
DTLA is such an exciting place to live. My husband, Corey and I are so often asked for bar and restaurant recommendations, insights about cultural events, shopping tips, and just basic things like Where Can I Take My Kid and Have Fun?
And with the ever-evolving landscape of this particular LA neighborhood, we'll never be short on inspiration!
There are a ton of lifestyle blogs out there, each with its own purpose and personality. So thank you for taking the time to visit us here. Topics you'll see here will include:
LOFT LIVING – How we live small and live well; the search for solutions in a downtown dwelling
DTLA GUIDE – Restaurants, Bars, Shopping, Events, Performances, Exploration of a constantly shifting neighborhood
FAMILY - As a dad and stepmom to a busy teenager who spends time with us in DTLA, how we keep it all balanced (sometimes); the unique fun and challenge of being married, working actors; the often ridiculous and always entertaining Arlo the pooch
STYLE – Fashion, Design, Architecture and all the aesthetic fun to be had, in large part inspired by urban living
PLAY/CRAFT - Whether it's quilting or baking, or attempting to assemble something, you'll see us take a stab at it (sometimes literally - OW)
DOWNTOWN BEES - We've been keeping bees on a rooftop in DTLA since 2009. Or, rather, hosting about 60,000 amazing little creatures that produce the most delicious honey.
So glad you're joining us! Sign up to see where this adventure takes us, or just stop by when you're in the neighborhood. Either way, we'll be happy to see you.
And in honor of Valentine's Day, here's a downloadable wallpaper I created called Windows to Love. The giant windows in our loft are one of my favorite features in our living space and they frame the city in such a beautiful way. Hope you enjoy looking through them, too!
